Fading Dark Underarms – Natural vs. Cosmetic Options

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

The development of dark underarms is often extremely frustrating as they tend to stick out like a sore thumb. This is especially true for those who live in warm climates and whom wear clothing which exposes their underarm skin. However, no matter where you live or what you wear, the onset of dark underarm skin is almost always met with anger, frustration, and above all action. Action in that those with dark underarms want to do something about the color and tone of their underarm skin as soon as possible.

When you search for dark underarms on Google, you will see more than 400,000 websites pertaining to this subject. What does this mean? It means that if you have dark underarms, you are not alone. The debate begins when discussing using natural or cosmetic options to alleviate the problem. While this site is certainly biased in that I suggest using a safe cosmetic product like Medliten (www.medliten.com), I will try to be objective and present some points which hopefully help you make an informed decision. To begin, using a natural ingredient such as lemon juice is effective albeit slightly effective. The acid in the lemon juice can help lighten the tone of the outer layers of skin. This however is a very temporary solution as the outer layer of skin will soon be replaced by new skin.

Using a cosmetic product like Medliten prohibits new skin from developing pigment as well as helps lighten current skin. This method is a more long-term and proactive approach. While this option will take longer and cost more than using an ingredient like lemon juice, it is ultimately the better decision as the results will last much much longer. Medliten for example relies on an ingredient called Alpha Arbutin which has been clinically shown to safely lighten the skin.

Other natural remedies I have seen include using hydrogen peroxide, which again is not very effective and is also a very temporary solution.

In the end, using a cosmetic product like Medliten is a smart way to lighten dark underarms as this product contains multiple ingredients which have been shown to successfully lighten the skin.
